We visited Lake Sch-Nepp-A-Ho Family Campground located in Muskegon, Michigan in May, 2019. The new owners, Jean and Sean contacted us over the winter and kindly agreed to host our first annual Camp the Mitten group camping rally.
Jean and Sean purchased the campground in 2018 and lovingly referred to it as a “fixer upper”. It’s obvious that they have spent TONS of time and invested a significant amount fixing and upgrading the campground since purchasing it. We really enjoyed our weekend and will definitely be back for a return visit.
Our Campsite at Lake Sch-Nepp-A-Ho Family Campground
We camped on site 34 based on Jean’s recommendation. It is one of the best campsites we’ve ever camped on in a private campground. The site itself was a bit short but we were able to park our 34ft fifth wheel on it without too much trouble. What makes this campsite unique and extra awesome is that it features a separate fire pit a few steps down, right on the lake. It was a great place to gather with all of our new camping friends!
The campground features many lakefront sites perfect for enjoying a campfire or fishing right from your campsite. The sites are all somewhat small so it would be tough to fit a camper much larger than 30-35ft on most of them. There are several pull-thru sites across the street that would be best for larger campers – and you can still see the lake! You can also camp on a rustic tent site or rent a cabin if you prefer.
The Campground at Lake Sch-Nepp-A-Ho Family Campground
There are plenty of amenities at the campground to keep kids and adults busy. From craft time, corn hole boards, to water trampolines at the beach there is something for everyone. Since we visited the first weekend in May we weren’t able to try out the water trampolines but they sure look fun.
The playground kept our kids (ages 10, 6, 6) busy for HOURS! Their favorite part was, surprisingly, the merry-go-round. I’m dizzy just thinking about how much they spun around! And, because the campground isn’t too big we were able to keep an eye on them from our site across the lake. We also took advantage of the free boat rental included and took one of the paddle boats out on the lake. Our daughter loved it!
The campground is located right of US-31 so you do hear highway noise. It didn’t really bother us too much when we were outside and we didn’t hear it at all inside the camper. The lake has three fountains (they light up at night!) and that helped cover the highway noise.
The buildings around the campground (store, clubhouse, bath house) are all older but have been recently updated and are clean and well maintained. The showers even feature unique murals on the wall which really show how Jean and Sean are putting some extra love into this campground.
What’s Around Lake Sch-Nepp-A-Ho Family Campground?
The campground is located just outside of Muskegon, which offers shopping, dining, and anything else you might need. The campground is also located within minutes of Michigan’s Adventure Amusement Park. This would be a great place to stay if you’re planning a day at the park.
